Phase 1 – Commission First YubiKey
The objective of this phase is to validate the complete authentication workflow using a single YubiKey before configuring the remaining two.
Current Checklist
Step 1 – Initialise the YubiKey

- Set the FIDO2 PIN using the Windows Security Key management screen.
- Confirm the key is operating correctly.
Step 2 – Register with LastPass

- Register the YubiKey as a security key (2FA) with LastPass.
- Test logging in successfully.
- Do not change the LastPass master password yet.
Step 3 – Test on iPhone

- Verify NFC authentication works.
- Confirm the login experience on mobile.
Step 4 – Review

- Confirm the workflow is understood.
- Decide whether any changes are required before configuring the remaining keys.
Step 5 – Configure Remaining YubiKeys

- Configure the remaining two YubiKeys.
- Apply the same FIDO2 PIN.
- Register all three keys with LastPass.
- Test each key individually.
Future Phases
The following phases will be completed after the YubiKey implementation has been validated.
- Purchase personal domain.
- Create Proton Unlimited account.
- Configure custom domain.
- Configure SimpleLogin.
- Create email alias strategy.
- Begin account migration.
- Migrate Yahoo Mail.
- Replace passwords with passkeys where appropriate.
These items will remain as a simple checklist until they become the current phase.
